What does laser metal cutting involve?

Laser metal cutting involves using a laser beam to cut or burn metal. The laser beam is produced by a laser, which is a device that generates a beam of high-intensity light. The laser beam is then focused through a lens onto the metal surface.

When the laser beam touches the surface of the metal, it heats it to its melting or sublimation temperature. When melting, the metal flows down, forming a hole. In sublimation, the metal turns into a gas, which is removed from the cutting area.

Laser metal burning is a very precise process and allows for cutting metal from a few millimetres to several centimetres thick. It is also a quick and efficient process.

Types of cutting lasers

There are two main types of lasers used to burn metal: CO2 lasers and fibre lasers. CO2 lasers are the most common type of laser used to cut metal. Fibre lasers are more efficient than CO2 lasers and provide better cutting properties.
